Sorry, given that Mailman is almost always rate limited by I/O and the 
MTA, it's mostly irrelevant to talk about performance. Mailman is 
almost NEVER the bottleneck when you use 2.1. So why argue about 
upgrading a six lane highway to eight lanes when a mile down the road 
it all turns back into four?
