I've dropped a patch on sourceforge [#100867] to add the META tags to 
the archive index/contents pages which prevent robots using those pages 
in the full text indexes.  I have found this makes search engines hit 
the articles on searches and not hit the index pages so much (which can 
be a real pain - they seem to generate a real pile of false positives).

Works very nicely for me, nice short patch, enables me to use htDig on 
pipermail archives without problems.

For those with sourceforge logins, the URL is (probably wrapped)

id=103

You'll be able to get at it without a sourceforge login, probably by 
just changing the https to http
