I see the problem in the archive index at http://lists.isfahanlug.org/pipermail/supervisors/2014-November/thread.html. I have downloaded the http://lists.isfahanlug.org/pipermail/supervisors/2014-November.txt.gz file (which by the way is doubly gzipped[1]) and can see the several messages therein with empty Subject: header, but when I process these through the pipermail Archiver, they get archived with a Subject: of 'No subject' (even in the 2014-November.txt file) and properly indexed. This may be a Debian Mailman bug, but it appears that this doesn't happen with standard GNU Mailman. You could try filing a Debian bug and see what they say. If you have access to the /var/lib/mailman/archives/private/supervisors.mbox/supervisors.mbox file, I would like to see at least one of these improperly indexed messages from that file. [1] The contents of http://lists.isfahanlug.org/pipermail/supervisors/2014-November.txt.gz is a file named 2014-November.txt, but this is actually a gzipped file which needs to be renamed 2014-November.txt.gz and gunzipped again to get the plain text. This may also be a Debian bug (I've seen it before). ** Changed in: mailman Importance: Undecided => Medium ** Changed in: mailman Status: New => Incomplete ** Changed in: mailman Assignee: (unassigned) => Mark Sapiro (msapiro) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mailman Coders, which is subscribed to GNU Mailman. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1388614 Title: archive problem when an email got not subject To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mailman/+bug/1388614/+subscriptions From mark at msapiro.net Tue Nov 4 22:34:05 2014 From: mark at msapiro.net (Mark Sapiro) Date: Tue, 04 Nov 2014 21:34:05 -0000 Subject: [Bug 1388614] Re: archive problem when an email got not subject References: <20141102185946.9615.69231.malonedeb@chaenomeles.canonical.com> Message-ID: <20141104213405.22163.66788.malone@gac.canonical.com> Note that the /var/lib/mailman/archives/private/supervisors.mbox/supervisors.mbox can be accessed at the URL http://lists.isfahanlug.org/mailman/private/supervisors.mbox/supervisors.mbox, but this requires authentication with a list member's email address and list password. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mailman Coders, which is subscribed to GNU Mailman. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1388614 Title: archive problem when an email got not subject To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mailman/+bug/1388614/+subscriptions From 1388614 at bugs.launchpad.net Tue Nov 4 23:10:10 2014 From: 1388614 at bugs.launchpad.net (Bersam Karbasion) Date: Tue, 04 Nov 2014 22:10:10 -0000 Subject: [Bug 1388614] Re: archive problem when an email got not subject References: <20141102185946.9615.69231.malonedeb@chaenomeles.canonical.com> Message-ID: <20141104221010.22487.29698.malone@gac.canonical.com> Here's the file you asked (only couple of emails that produce this bug). One way this may happen is if they are set via bin/config_list from an input file with a # -*- coding: utf-8 -*- line. There may be other ways. It is not completely clear exactly how this happens. If these attributes are unicodes, attempts to display them in the lists admin GUI result in UnicodeDecodeError exceptions. This will be fixed to avoid the exception by displaying the representation of the attribute rather than the attribute in cases of text attributes whose value is not a string. ** Affects: mailman Importance: Low Assignee: Mark Sapiro (msapiro) Status: In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mailman Coders, which is subscribed to GNU Mailman. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1397170 Title: admin CGI throws UnicodeDecodeError when certain list text attrubutes are unicodes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mailman/+bug/1397170/+subscriptions From 1397170 at bugs.launchpad.net Fri Nov 28 05:27:39 2014 From: 1397170 at bugs.launchpad.net (Launchpad Bug Tracker) Date: Fri, 28 Nov 2014 04:27:39 -0000 Subject: [Bug 1397170] Re: admin CGI throws UnicodeDecodeError when certain list text attrubutes are unicodes References: <20141128040413.1313.55346.malonedeb@wampee.canonical.com> Message-ID: <20141128042741.27341.48259.launchpad@ackee.canonical.com> ** Branch linked: lp:mailman/2.1 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mailman Coders, which is subscribed to GNU Mailman. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1397170 Title: admin CGI throws UnicodeDecodeError when certain list text attrubutes are unicodes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mailman/+bug/1397170/+subscriptions From mark at msapiro.net Fri Nov 28 05:27:45 2014 From: mark at msapiro.net (Mark Sapiro) Date: Fri, 28 Nov 2014 04:27:45 -0000 Subject: [Bug 1397170] Re: admin CGI throws UnicodeDecodeError when certain list text attrubutes are unicodes References: <20141128040413.1313.55346.malonedeb@wampee.canonical.com> Message-ID: <20141128042746.1110.68948.launchpad@wampee.canonical.com> ** Changed in: mailman Status: In Progress => Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mailman Coders, which is subscribed to GNU Mailman. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1397170 Title: admin CGI throws UnicodeDecodeError when certain list text attrubutes are unicodes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mailman/+bug/1397170/+subscriptions From mark at msapiro.net Fri Nov 28 22:07:51 2014 From: mark at msapiro.net (Mark Sapiro) Date: Fri, 28 Nov 2014 21:07:51 -0000 Subject: [Bug 1397170] Re: admin CGI throws UnicodeDecodeError when certain list text attrubutes are unicodes References: <20141128040413.1313.55346.malonedeb@wampee.canonical.com> Message-ID: <20141128210751.3051.26159.malone@soybean.canonical.com> The fix that avoided the exception by displaying the representation of the attribute rather than the attribute in cases of text attributes whose value is not a string caused issues if the page that displayed the representation(s) was 'submitted'.
