Frankly, I was trying not to over-specify the solution. (I've found it's better to tell the mechanic that "it pulls to the left" than to request an expensive front-end alignment that won't fix the problem.) So when I found no mention of this common user gotcha, I was willing to leave it to the author's best judgement the best way to fix it. That said, it does seem that the most appropriate place to mention it is where you suggested in 3.2: "mylist at example.com - this is the email address...". My only editorial suggestion would be: "A Bcc: to the list..." for consistency. However, since the Manual says in the Introduction "This document need not be read in order", it might be prudent to mention this behavior in Section 11.2, perhaps as the third bullet under the bullet "Limited posting to the lists". I didn't think about the default Listinfo screen (see "alignment" above) but it is needed there too. It easily can be removed from the HTML if the admin chooses to disable 'require_explicit_destination'. And not to mission-creep this further, but I could really use the (as yet unwritten, apparently) tutorial on "Listserver Netiquette" to distribute to my subscribers... :-/ Thanks, -Chip- On 3/11/2013 22:34 Mark Sapiro said: > I'm not sure what you mean by "the beginning of the Manual". As far as the list member manual is concerned, I doubt that even 1% of the members of my lists are aware that it exists even though my list welcome_msg links to a web document describing list policies and procedures and linking in turn to the member manual. ** Changed in: mailman Importance: Undecided => Wishlist ** Changed in: mailman Status: New => Opinion -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mailman Coders, which is subscribed to GNU Mailman. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1153746 Title: Minor addition to Mailman Member Manual To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mailman/+bug/1153746/+subscriptions From 1154004 at bugs.launchpad.net Wed Mar 13 00:02:27 2013 From: 1154004 at bugs.launchpad.net (Nemo_bis) Date: Tue, 12 Mar 2013 23:02:27 -0000 Subject: [Bug 1154004] Re: Sender address is not validated correctly References: <20130312095925.4061.17603.malonedeb@chaenomeles.canonical.com> Message-ID: <20130312230227.3456.51232.malone@wampee.canonical.com> Not always, just in the context of a mailing list... Thus, putting the two regexps ^from:.*[\s,<](?P[^\s,>]+@[^\s,>]+)(.|\n)*^sender:.*(?P=femail) ^sender:.*[\s,<](?P[^\s,>]+@[^\s,>]+)(.|\n)*^from:.*(?P=femail) in a Privacy options... -> Spam filters -> header_filter_rules rule with action Accept will pass a message with a From: and Sender: with matching addresses in either order. Then following this with a second rule with regexps ^from:(.|\n)*^sender: ^sender:(.|\n)*^from: and action Hold will hold those remaining messages with both From: and Sender: in either order without matching addresses. This could work, but a possibly better way to do it is with a custom handler . In any case, I consider this 'bug' to not be anything that can be 'fixed' and thus, invalid. Logging into the admin interface succeeds fine, but when clicking any of the links on the page top, the request forgery error message is displayed on the resulting page. Since this param is not part of the safe_params list, csrf_check() is called with 'None' as second parameter. Since submitting forms is working fine, this bug is merely a cosmetic one but still very confusing. ** Affects: mailman Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mailman Coders, which is subscribed to GNU Mailman. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1160647 Title: request forgery check displayed when only viewing admin pages To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mailman/+bug/1160647/+subscriptions From mark at msapiro.net Wed Mar 27 03:18:31 2013 From: mark at msapiro.net (Mark Sapiro) Date: Wed, 27 Mar 2013 02:18:31 -0000 Subject: [Bug 1160647] Re: request forgery check displayed when only viewing admin pages References: <20130327001348.23944.14740.malonedeb@soybean.canonical.com> Message-ID: <20130327021831.6482.59847.malone@gac.canonical.com> It works for me. My installation of Mailman 2.1.13 (Debian Squeeze) uses German localization, DEFAULT_SERVER_LANGUAGE is set to 'de'. The issue: When I remove a member from the commandline with 'remove_members
', the mail to the user 'You have been unsubscribed from the mailing list' has an unlocalized subject line. This does not happen using the email interface. Obviously the user language setting for i18n has not been done when this mail subject string gets localized. I inserted one line into Deliverer.py which fixed the issue for me: File: Deliverer.py - near line 84 ... def SendUnsubscribeAck(self, addr, lang): realname = self.real_name + i18n.set_language(lang) msg = Message.UserNotification( self.GetMemberAdminEmail(addr), self.GetBouncesEmail(), _('You have been unsubscribed from the %(realname)s mailing list'), Utils.wrap(self.goodbye_msg), lang) msg.send(self, verp=mm_cfg.VERP_PERSONALIZED_DELIVERIES) ... They are not put anywhere by standard GNU Mailman. When one saves a message to a file from Thunderbird, it is given a file name of the message subject with a .eml extension. the '8' and '9' may have been added by the user to distinguish the files. More importantly, the actual body of the reminder will contain lines like Passwords for user at example.com: List Password // URL ---- -------- listname at klickitat.78online.com xxxxxx http://klickitat.78online.com/mailman/options/listname/user%40example.com where user at example.com is the actual subscribed address. Are these addresses identical in the two reminder email bodies? If not, the user has two subscribed addresses, thus two reminders. If the addresses are identical, but the reminders are for different lists in different domains, this is normal. If they are for different lists in the identical domain, this may be some SuSeism. ** Changed in: mailman Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: mailman Status: New => Incomplete ** Changed in: mailman Assignee: (unassigned) => Mark Sapiro (msapiro) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mailman Coders, which is subscribed to GNU Mailman. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1161683 Title: Some members get duplicate 'memberships reminder' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mailman/+bug/1161683/+subscriptions From 1156529 at bugs.launchpad.net Fri Mar 29 23:06:59 2013 From: 1156529 at bugs.launchpad.net (Florian Fuchs) Date: Fri, 29 Mar 2013 22:06:59 -0000 Subject: [Bug 1156529] Re: Pagination for REST API collections References: <20130318094909.18076.83440.malonedeb@gac.canonical.com> Message-ID: <20130329220700.9068.57745.launchpad@chaenomeles.canonical.com> ** Changed in: postorius Status: Confirmed => Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mailman Coders, which is subscribed to GNU Mailman. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1156529 Title: Pagination for REST API collections To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mailman/+bug/1156529/+subscriptions From ron at fial.com Sat Mar 30 00:35:11 2013 From: ron at fial.com (Ron Fial) Date: Fri, 29 Mar 2013 23:35:11 -0000 Subject: [Bug 1161683] Re: Some members get duplicate 'memberships reminder' References: <20130329005000.20806.19073.malonedeb@wampee.canonical.com> Message-ID: <20130329233511.8562.60746.malone@chaenomeles.canonical.com> Mark, thanks for the comment, of course you are correct. Perhaps there are two Mailman crontabs, one user crontab in /var/spool/cron/mailman and a system crontab in /etc/cron.d/mailman or wherever these files might be found in SuSe. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mailman Coders, which is subscribed to GNU Mailman. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1161683 Title: Some members get duplicate 'memberships reminder' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mailman/+bug/1161683/+subscriptions From ron at fial.com Sat Mar 30 03:05:58 2013 From: ron at fial.com (Ron Fial) Date: Sat, 30 Mar 2013 02:05:58 -0000 Subject: [Bug 1161683] Re: Some members get duplicate 'memberships reminder' References: <20130329005000.20806.19073.malonedeb@wampee.canonical.com> Message-ID: <20130330020558.13153.75990.malone@soybean.canonical.com> Yep, exactly right, and I found that about the time you were writing your answer. When I installed Mailman in 2009, I was familiar with Majordomo (Ran it for 10 years) and after the install, when i did crontab -u mailman -l there was no crontab file. So I copied the info from the ..../mailman/cron directory and made a crontab for user mailman. Thus there were two crontabs, the mailman user's and the one in /etc/cron.d/mailman. What tipped me off were the dual crontab entries in /var/log/messages, you could see every line was running twice. But the line I added to the mailman-user's crontab I created only ran once. Funny no users are reporting duplicate digests, it must be because the first program that makes the digests moves the files, and the second time it runs there is nothing to send. Anyway, on April 1st (not a joke) I will have proof that the problem is solved. You can mark this bug report as completed.
