For what it's worth, In SageMathCloud I make the Jupyter notebooks use
the full width of the screen by default -- see the attached
screenshot.  I just read my code, and this is done via this line of
Javascript...:

  $('<style type=text/css></style>').html(".container{width:98%;
margin-left: 0;}")
