Yet, KDE didn't cease to exist, and remember, how look it to for both projects 
to work together, even for most basic things like menus or desktop icons :)

I spoke of "the whole thing", not just "PySide".   I do not doubt, that PySide 
will be successful, with a permissive license and Nokia standing behind it.

But I do doubt, that PyQt will step aside quickly, with many applications 
using and a libraries (PyKDE, PyQwt) building on it.   In the end, there will 
be two competing bindings for the same library, which only makes things more 
complicated for everyone, projects like PyKDE, PyQwt or matplotlib as well as 
other Python developers, who consider choosing Qt as their GUI toolkit.

But we'll see, what future brings …
