Hi Fredrik,

In case the freezer is not started yet, you might consider using
xdg-open in ImageShow:
http://portland.freedesktop.org/xdg-utils-1.0/xdg-open.html

xdg-open — opens a file or URL in the user's preferred application

It is the equivalent of open on OSX and will work on most modern
distributions (ubuntu, opensuse, fedora, debian, ...) as it is part of
the freedesktop specification. You could keep the existing code as a
fallback.
