[Image-SIG] writing 16 bit per channel images?

Hi,

does anybody know how one would be able to write 16 bit per channel images?
Preferably PNGs or TIFFs, but could also be others. It seems like PIL can't
handle that, and OpenCV (with its Python bindings) doesn't seem to be capable
of that, either.

The only thing I found is PyPNG:

http://packages.python.org/pypng/ca.html

But it's not by default in my Ubuntu repositories. Any other ideas or
experience with an issue like that?

Guy
