[Image-SIG] Question about creating transparent backgrounds

Howdy,

I'm putting together a class to make
text buttons. The next feature I'd like
is having a transparent background.

I'm having trouble understanding the documentation
regarding transparency, it would help me to
see an example of creating an image and putting
text on it, having the background transparent,
for gif and png.

It would be great if someone could point
me towards such example code.
