ICVGIP 2004, the 4th Indian Conference on Computer Vision, Graphics and Image Processing, is held in Kolkata (India), from December 16 until December 18, 2004. Soft Computing techniques involve different methodologies, e.g. fuzzy set theory, neural networks, genetic algorithms and rough set theory. The capabiblity of these techniques to incorporate imprecision and incomplete information, and to model very complex systems makes them a usefull tool in many scientific areas. Needless to say, image processing is one of these areas. The aim of this session is to provide an international forum for presentation of recent results and advances regarding soft computing techniques in image processing. It is a unique opportunity for researchers in this area to meet and to exchange ideas. It is also a way to establish and/or intensify international cooperation. Topics include but are not limited to: * noise reduction in images * edge detection and segmentation * feature extraction * image enhancement * image compression * similarity between images * image analysis * ... Authors are invited to submit one or more full papers describing theoretical or practical results for review by April 30, 2004. Papers should be written in English, not exceeding 6 single-sided pages on A4 paper, in two-column format, in Times or a similar font of 10 points or larger. If you are interested in submitting a paper for the session on "Soft Computing in Image Processing", please let us know with a short email and a short abstract. If you already have submitted a paper for the ICVGIP 2004 Conference and if you think it fits in the scope of this session, you can let us know this as well. It is possible to have your paper moved into the session! Note: regular papers can be submitted through the conference website. However, papers for the SCIP session should be submitted to the session organizers at SCIP@UGent.be. They will take care of the further submission. About ICVGIP 2004 ============== The Indian Conference on Computer Vision, Graphics and Image Processing (ICVGIP) is being organized every two years since 1995 by premier academic institutions and Research and Development laboratories. The objective of the conference is to bring together researchers in the academic institutions and R&D Laboratories working in the above fields and to use this as a forum to exchange views and ideas in these topics of current research. All information regarding the conference can be found at the conference website: http://www.cse.iitb.ac.in/icvgip. The contents of this website includes: * Call for Papers * Submission guidelines (also see above) * Information about the conference venue Contact information ============= If you have any questions related to the Special Session "Soft Computing in Image Processing", feel free to contact us: Dietrich Van der Weken, Mike Nachtegael, Etienne Kerre Ghent University Department of Applied Mathematics & Computer Science Fuzziness and Uncertainty Modelling Research Unit Krijgslaan 281 (Building S9) B-9000 Gent Belgium Phone: +32 9 264.47.65 Fax: +32 9 264.49.95 E-mail: SCIP@UGent.be From udapkhywlyul at financier.com Tue Mar 2 15:26:51 2004 From: udapkhywlyul at financier.com (Nicolas R. Are you talking about a 3D volumetric-image file? Like, a 3-dimensional array of pixels? If you are, then I'm pretty sure PIL doesn't support that kind of file. And if you're not talking about that kind of file, then... I have no idea what you're talking about. :) With a file that big, and a format that ... custom, you're going to need to write or find a special slicer/inserter. It goes very well with PIL: print img.size img=img.rotate (90) print img.size it prints (x,y) and then (y,x) however, if I want to include a filter (I don't know why a filter could be usefull for a rotate) and do: img=img.rotate (90, Image.BICUBIC) then output size is still (x,y) stupidily, I don't even find the code which is doing this rotate. In Image.py of PIL 1.1.4, I find: 1081: return self._new(self.im.rotate(angle, resample)) I don't find the source that is called there From drinegui at netscape.net Sun Mar 21 06:10:54 2004 From: drinegui at netscape.net (Guillaume Sauzon) Date: Sun Mar 21 06:10:58 2004 Subject: [Image-SIG] Support for EXIF in PIL Message-ID: <405D783E.1000905@netscape.net> Hello, I want to rotate on the fly some pictures. They are JPEG containing EXIF data. If I do it with PIL, I loose the EXIF header. I tried to reconstruct it in the end pictures, but it doesn't work. I guess JFIF and EXIF are somehow incompatible. Is there a way to keep this header ? Any ideas ? Thus if you do a non-filtered 90-degree rotate, the dimensions are flipped. For anything else, the dimensions stay the same and the filter is used to compute the possibly-interpolated pixels. > 1081: return self._new(self.im.rotate(angle, resample)) > I don't find the source that is called there Hazarding a guess, I'd say that the source is "self.im". -- Matthias Urlichs -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... In addtion to this problem, if you use PIL to rotate a jpeg, it is uncompressing and then re-compressing the jpeg. As jpeg is a lossy format, you degrade the image a little by doing this. I'd suggest using one of the versions of jpegtools. Look for: jpegtran (lossless rotation of images) jpegcrop (the above, plus lossless cropping) They both can keep your EXIF data as well. One or both of these is likely to be installed already on a Linux system, and I'm pretty sure they are available for Windows and other systems as well. I'd love to wrap jpegcrop up and make a python tool out of it, but at the moment, I'm just using it as a system call. -Chris -- Christopher Barker, Ph.D. Oceanographer NOAA/OR&R/HAZMAT (206) 526-6959 voice 7600 Sand Point Way NE (206) 526-6329 fax Seattle, WA 98115 (206) 526-6317 main reception Chris.Barker@noaa.gov From drinegui at netscape.net Tue Mar 23 15:06:54 2004 From: drinegui at netscape.net (Guillaume Sauzon) Date: Tue Mar 23 15:07:00 2004 Subject: [Image-SIG] Support for EXIF in PIL In-Reply-To: <405EC69C.6030001@noaa.gov> References: <405D783E.1000905@netscape.net> <405EC69C.6030001@noaa.gov> Message-ID: <406098DE.8040800@netscape.net> Hello, First of all, thank you to all for your answers.
