[Image-SIG] ImageFileIO?

Under the tutorial section of the PIL documentation there is a section near
the end entitled "Reading Images from Streams" which specifies that a class
ImageFileIO is available to read images from sockets but I was not able to
find it in the 0.3b2 distribution?  Is this something that has been
discontinued and if so what is the recommended method of reading images of
unknown dimensions from a socket?
