[PYTHON IMAGE-SIG] getPixel function?

I'm wondering if PIL has a method to simply return a pixel value
given it's x,y coordinates (or even better a list of x,y coordinates)?
I can't seem to find one, but it seems like a simple enough operation,
so I thought that the code might already exist.
