In regards to your mailing lists, instead of using the mailing list to send to, we'd rather have the Python Software Foundation send out the email on behalf of us to your lists. Is this possible? First, what does this have to do with Google Summer of Code? This is a discussion list for prospective participants in that program. It sounds like you intended to contact someone in charge of the python mail servers? Second, no, we're not interested in changing the settings for this list. This is a discussion list, what you're describing sounds more like some sort of marketing list which would be less suitable for our purpose. There's a whole host of RFCs that define list behaviour, such as https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc2919 and https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc6377 if you want to learn more about what choices were made and the history of why. If you intend to advocate for a change be prepared to do a lot of reading and address the *many* technical and social issues that would arise from a change. But discussion of list policies is off-topic for here. If you want to talk about it further, please join the appropriate python volunteer sub-committee; this is not it. Message-ID: Hi all! Every post to this mailing list gets an auto-response that answers the most common questions, but for those of you who are maybe reading the archives or lurking and haven't posted, I'll share some links: All the latest information, including information on how to get started, can be found here: http://python-gsoc.org/ I recommend reading as much of it as you have time for, but for a quick start you probably want to read our instructions on getting started: http://python-gsoc.org/index.html#gettingstarted And then our instructions on how to apply: http://python-gsoc.org/index.html#apply Note that all applications MUST go through the Google system https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/ which won't open for contributor applications until March 18, 2024. Please do not post applications (or resumes) on this mailing list! For those who want a little more detail on what we expect from you and what you expect for us, we've got some more detailed contributor info here: https://python-gsoc.org/contributors.html And before asking here, you might want to check out the list of frequently asked questions: https://python-gsoc.org/contributors.html#faq which includes "How do I choose a project or a sub-org?" https://python-gsoc.org/contributors.html#choosing And "how many slots does python get?" https://python-gsoc.org/contributors.html#slots Best of luck! We always see a few people who mis-calculated timezones, had a crippling moment of imposter syndrome, or a technical problem at the last second. Please get something in to https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/ now -- you can change it until the last second, but if you don't have any application in the system when it closes there's nothing we can do for you. I will say that I'm still seeing a few project ideas that have 0 applicants in the system right now, so you may have a really good chance if you get something in! Don't forget to add the name of your sub-org in the title of your proposal as it's displayed in the google system. It really helps us find you! Here's some more instructions on how to apply: https://python-gsoc.org/index.html#apply And I'm already seeing a number of proposals in the system that aren't likely to get chosen by any mentor. If you're worried that might be you, make sure you're not doing anything on this list: https://python-gsoc.org/index.html#bad Terri Python GSoC Org Admin
