Hi all,

I haven't done an introduction email, so here it is.

I'm Trey and I'm one of the co-organizers of the San Diego Python users
group. I put up the open space card at PyCon and I was very happily
surprised at how many showed up and at how well we self-organized.

A couple interesting things we do in our San Diego Python group:

- We organize a few workshops every year. We have an Intro to Python
one and a Django TDD one: http://pythonsd.org/pages/workshops.html

- Our monthly meetups consist exclusively of 5 minute lightning talks,
anywhere from 5 to 8 of them. Switching to lightning talks has greatly
widened our talk pool (beginners give talks regularly) and tends to
produce a more diverse and interesting set of topics every month.

- We have a study group we host every Saturday afternoon. No one person
runs this meetup. There are at least 6 people who know how to setup the
tables, do introductions, and generally run this meetup.

- We try to keep a friendly regular near the door during our study
groups and monthly meetups so anyone walking in late can be greeted and
introduced to others. During our study groups, we often applause after
newcomers announce what they are learning.

- Our Saturday study group brings in a much more diverse crowd than our
monthly meetups. During the study groups, regulars often coax beginners
to try out our monthly meetups and sometimes convince newcomers to give
lightning talks.

I think that sums up our group pretty well. I'm not sure if any of the
other SD Python organizers have joined this list. If so, please add on
anything I forgot to mention!
