Our May meeting is shaping up to be an interesting one. Bob Waldron
will be there to talk about the upcoming civic hackathon in Appleton.

They are looking for participation from coders, GIS people, activists,
designers, and all kinds of people with big ideas about how to take
publicly available data and use it to improve our communities.

Also, I will talk about PyCon 2015 in Montreal. I will be giving away
copies of Julia Evans' strace zine. It's a handmade booklet with great
info about how you can add strace to your debugging toolbox.

I'm forwarding info that Bob Waldron sent me about the civic hackathon
they are organizing in Appleton on June 6.

They describe their purpose as "building open source technology and
organizes a network of people dedicated to making government services
simple, effective, and easy to use." For example, one such event built
an interactive parking map for all the parking spaces in Milwaukee.
Taking publicly available data, and making it easy to access and
useful.

There is a strong need for GIS experience at these civic data hacking
events. Mamadou, we would love to have the participation of you and of
your students.

Bob will be at the May meeting (May 4 at 7:30), please come by and say
hello, get some more info if you are interested.

My goal is to build the community of civic hackers and open tech
people throughout NE Wisc. Zach G wants to do a civic hackathon in De
Pere, and I'm hoping we can do civic hackathons or other civic hacking
activities in Green Bay, Oshkosh, Fond du Lac and other places around
the region.
