I assumed that it didn't require X11.

The question is what is the road to a glut window that has the capabilities
the the vpython window?

And if such a road exists, what would be the reason to not right it in
C intergrated with the existing vpython code, and exposed to Python.

By the other route vpython might end up being the first 3d application ever
prototyped in C and ported to Python ;)
