[Distutils] Problem with Setuptools on Ubuntu 8.0.4

Hi:

I have the following problem with Ubuntu 8.04 Desktop
and  Xandros on the EEE ASUS. I am trying to install
PyAMF-0.3.1

python setup.py install

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "setup.py", line 6, in <module>
    use_setuptools()
  File
"/home/afrancis/Public/PyAMF-0.3.1/ez_setup.py", line
91, in use_setuptools
    import setuptools;
setuptools.bootstrap_install_from = egg
zipimport.ZipImportError: can't decompress data; zlib
not available

Any help solving this would be appreciated.
