Below and attached is a flyer about a new Manhattan CONTACT = JAM, being organized by Sridhar Shanmugam, who for decades was a = principal in the pioneering revolutionary Chandralekha Company (Indian = postmodern -and contact-oriented- dance). STARTING THIS WEEK: 4/3/03. = All are welcome. Also, our CS Arts Theater dance/arts company travels a lot doing shows = and demos/workshops outside NYC. We'd love to interact with other = groups/regions, and we can offer our members' decades-long = practice/performance experience in Indian, Chinese, Native American, and = modern/Western disciplines in dance, martial arts, and therapies. We = have worked extensively with the differently-abled and public groups, = such as NYC's divisions of juvenile, geriatric, and health service, in = traditional and highly non-traditional settings. Stress relief, = meditation, conflict mediation, diversity training... Our non-profit = 'sliding scale' can accomodate all. =20 Re the new NYC jams --we hope they will develop organically and make = their own energy.=20 Our gorgeous studio is in our friends' midtown art-gallery-like office = floor. Our wonderful open suite overlooks a historic church and is very = quiet, though Broadway is just down the street. It's also a space that = can be used for rehearsals, auditions, and classes (we teach yoga, = dance, stress relief, meditation, gyrotonics, etc. there). Hoping some = music/meditation people will come, and perhaps some of our Indian = martial arts (Kalarippayat...) can be shared in the opening moments of = the Thursday jam. Safety and support are what our nonprofit are about, = so we will work to be sure it's comfortable for everyone.
