Hi All,

We had a discussion earlier about getting sponsors for PythonExpress (
http://blog.pythonexpress.in/posts/support-request/) as some colleges
cannot afford to support the financial needs of the workshops like tutor's
travel and accommodation.

We did not see any progress in getting sponsors. Request everyone to spread
the word and help PythonExpress get financial support.

Though PSSI has agreed to reimburse tutor's travel and accommodation, we
would require fund to take care of the below items.

1. Certificates to participants as workshops in colleges come with that
expectation.
2. A token of appreciation in some form to the tutor for their excellent
job without expecting anything in return.

Apart from getting sponsors, we can consider below options.

1. Request college to share the cost, but not all colleges would be able to
provide the support in this front.
2. Request student participants to pay a nominal fee.
3. Get crowd funding.
4. Reach out to PSSI for financial grant apart from the current
reimbursement policy.
5. Reach out to PSF if PSSI could not provide financial support
continuously.

Looking for suggestions.

I wrote my first book, Python for Scientists and Engineers in end of 2014,
and it was really popular. I still get emails about where people can buy it.

it too much work. OpenCV 3, the main library, is a pain to install. If you
write a book, you have to support all platforms, and this becomes a
nightmare very quickly.

I have been planning to resurrect the book for a long time, and make it
free on my website. I?m looking for volunteers to help me in this task, as
Im swamped with other tasks.

If you agree to help, I?ll give you credit in the opening to the book, and
link to your Linkedin / Twitter / blog etc. In return, I ask that you put
in a minimum around of effort, say 2-3 hours a week (and this will vary).

Im only looking for 5-10 people, ideally people who are self motivated, and

If you are a mentor, or trainer, or prospective enthusiast who would

I would like to give a talk on "Module development for wireless systems
using Python".

This will be hands-on in nature where I will introduce the audience to the
wireless system, i.e, 4G and alter some parameters in the Python code and
show the effect.

Pre-requisites needed :   A basic understanding of 4G technology; 4G
technology is the one using which Reliance Jio is offering all the data
plans right now.

## April 2017 Chennaipy Meeting Minutes

Vijay, the organizer, welcomed everyone and started with an introduction on
what
a meetup is and isn't. That it is not a training program but a place to meet
people and exchange ideas. He introduced the first speaker.

### Talk 1 - Module development for wireless systems using Python

Speaker - Ashok Govindarajan

Ashok started with an introduction to the terminologies used in mobile data
technologies such as 4G, uplink and downlink. He explained how calls go from
sender to receiver through the network. He then demoed a module written in
python that simulated the downlink part of the call flow. The module
demonstrated how many bit errors can occur when the signal to noise ratio
and
the number of subcarriers are varied. He used Matplotlib to display a graph
representation comparing the transmitted and received signal. Other
libraries he
used included Numpy and Scipy.

He concluded by explaining his intention of developing educational material
for
ECE students for explaining the concepts touched upon during his talk.


We broke for networking and tea for fifteen minutes.


### Talk 2 - Introduction to Statecharts

Speaker - Vijay Kumar

Vijay began by talking about breaking down complex problems into a number of
simple problems to reduce the probability of error. He explained how state
diagrams can help in this matter. He demonstrated a program that turns a
lightbulb on and off to explain state diagrams. He used the Sismic
framework for
describing the state diagram using YAML and used the GTK+ library for
simulating
a lightbulb.

He further talked about how state diagrams can become very complex for large
problems and promoted state charts as the better solution for such cases. He
talked about the different types of state charts, backed up by more demos of
toggling multiple light bulbs. He ended the talk with some recommendations
for
resources for further study.

### Lightning talks

One audience member spoke about how he was now finally able to understand
state
machines despite having some experience with it in Matlab. Another member
spoke
about using scripts to automate email sending and Facebook "thank you"
comments.
A couple of the members came up to say how thankful they were for the
meetup and
how useful they found it. One last person came to talk about how useful
hackathons are when it comes to forcing yourself to try and learn new
things. He
informed the audience about a hackathon being conducted on May 5th by
Freshdesk
called "Save the Hacker".

The meetup concluded with Vijay giving thanks to the venue and tea sponsors
as
well as to the speakers and the audience. A group photo was taken.

Hi Rajeshkumar,
If you really want portability, TkInter is the least painful. You can
consider using pyinstaller for creating an .exe file for Windows.

Hi All,

It's been a wonderful year for PythonExpress in terms of growth. We have
taken a few initiatives to get sponsors and to reach out to schools.
Hope we will be able to move things forward towards our goals.

I think PythonExpress has reached to a stage where we have to have
committees to meet the needs of the project. In my opinion, we should have
the committees formed as below.

Financial Committee:
   1) Plan for budget and handle approvals on request basis.
   2) Manage and maintain the requests in some shared document like google
sheet or in the software itself (yet to be designed).

Coordinators:
   1) Request for tutors if no tutor has taken up a workshop request.
   2) Coordinate between tutor and college for the workshop prerequisites
and other things as necessary.
   3) Help clarify queries from colleges and tutors.

Software committee:
   1) Wye software development to add new features and enhancements and to
resolve issues if any.
   2) Maintain the github repo.

Technical Content Writing committee:
   1) Contribute and maintain the workshop contents for different workshops
for different levels (for schools an colleges - beginners, intermediate and
advanced)


Web Content Writing Committee:
   1) Help write blogs.
   2) Fine tune the content on website and help with social media
publishing as necessary.

Let me know your thoughts on the same.

I have tried almost everything pyinstaller, py2exe, cx_freeze ... But I am
not able to compile it successfully... Every other solution is giving me an
error.

Try with something simple first, like a simple CLI hello world program. 
If that works, move on to a pygame hello world. And then finally your 
application. This way, you will be able to easily debug the issue.

Hey Gautam,

As Vijay pointed out to a relevant SO thread, as an example I would point you to a game that I wrote some time back.

I have used

  *   pyinstaller for Linux based systems and
  *   cx_freeze for Windows based systems

for creating executables for my game.

Choosing an IDE is more a personal choice. I prefer VIM as my IDE for
python.
