From mdavis2 at ucsc.edu Sun May 12 22:12:45 2019 From: mdavis2 at ucsc.edu (Marilyn Davis) Date: Sun, 12 May 2019 19:12:45 -0700 Subject: [Baypiggies] Python Class Tomorrow; Data Analysis Next Week Message-ID: Hi Python People, This week, May 13 - 16, Mon - Thurs, is a face-to-face intensive "Python For Programmers" class, with 11 days together online after for questions and finishing the class work: http://course.ucsc-extension.edu/modules/shop/index.html?action=section&OfferingID=5591127&SectionID=6471349 Experienced programmers only please. If you'd prefer a more relaxed course, try the online course. It doesn't start, officially, until May 21; but you can register now and start today: http://course.ucsc-extension.edu/modules/shop/index.html?action=section&OfferingID=5591127&SectionID=6473967 The next week we offer Python for Data Analysis, a face-to-face intensive May 20 - 23, with 11 days online after to finish the class work and ask questions. This class is for absolute beginners to programming. The miracle of Python and the Pandas/Numpy/Mathplotlib libraries, using Jupyter notebooks, makes it a quick study to be analyzing and graphing data with no previous experience in programming. http://course.ucsc-extension.edu/modules/shop/index.html?action=section&OfferingID=6240437&SectionID=6473571 All courses are hands-on with short lectures, and lots of relevant exercises, and, we study the solutions after some lab time. Questions are always welcome; discussion and pair-programming are encouraged. Please come, and send students! He will show us how to accomplish various Google-related tasks using Google's APIs. Please RSVP at https://www.meetup.com/BAyPIGgies/events/260872440/ Location LinkedIn, Unify Meeting Room 950 W. Maude Ave, Sunnyvale . Meeting Details Meeting Schedule: - 7:00 pm Food and Announcements - 7:10 pm Talk starts - 8:30 pm Networking - 9:00 pm Event ends *Talk Title:* Exploring *more* Google APIs with Python *ABSTRACT* Back in Aug 2016 (event , video ), I introduced developers to working with Google APIs using Python, demonstrating code samples for: - Listing the first 100 files & folders in your Google Drive - Querying YouTube for videos - Searching for Gmail threads with at least 2 msgs - Reading cells in a Google Sheet - Querying public posts in Google+ - Creating events in Google Calendar Goals for that session: 1) show it's not as hard as it looks to use Google APIs, 2) show how several Google APIs work and 3) how to use them. Please skim the video if you missed that talk, as this month we'll keep the same goals but continue where we left off to look at APIs that were skipped last time (or didn't exist yet): - "Mail merge" real data into templates w/Google Docs & Slides - Formatting cells in Google Sheets - Importing spreadsheet data & charts into slides - Modifying your email signatures in Gmail - Modifying & recurring events in Google Calendar - Create Hangouts Chat bots to automate tasks or query for information Yes, it's true all these are G Suite APIs, but time-permitting, I'll demo some GCP APIs too, and even more importantly, use both Google Cloud product groups at the same time to leverage the best of both worlds. *BIO* WESLEY CHUN (@wescpy) is the author of Prentice Hall's bestselling "Core Python" (corepython.com) series, co-author of "Python Web Development with Django" (withdjango.com), and has written for Linux Journal, CNET, and InformIT. Can you help me post the following on the mailing list, or in the proper location. I am a baypiggies subscriber and know that the focus of the group is python. An immediate need for an experienced website developer to do maintenance/repair on an existing website in PHP. Website has become disabled due to the hosting company upgrading the PHP compiler from 5.x to 7.x. We suspect the problem lies in fsocketopen() calls to a dedicated off-site server. The website is an e-commerce website and is custom designed. Please contact me at the address below for more information and conversation. Thanks.
