Hi all,

Next week, we'll have a discussion about time-series analysis tools
that build on work from several Berkeley labs.  While originating in
elctrophysiology, the tools discussed should be of interest to those
with data other sources as well.

I would appreciate it if you pass this info along to colleagues and
labs who might find the discussion worthwhile.

Title: Strflab in python: a regularized regression framework

Abstract:
STRFlab is a Matlab toolkit originally used for performing regularized
regression on electrophysiological data. More recent work with MRI
showed that STRFlab's potential is not restricted to single cell
recordings, and can be used for a variety of brain data. Unfortunately
limitations of Matlab make it harder to work with larger data sets
such as those used in MRI. Python's support for objects and
referencing makes it an ideal platform for a STRFlab port. One of the
biggest hurdles for a successful port is the design of an efficient
data handling mechanism. The ideal system would support indexing into
arbitrary arrays such as numpy arrays, HDF files, etc; arbitrary
division of sample and heldout sets, as well as automated division for
bootstrapping and cross-validation. Some early code has been written
to address this, however I would appreciate community input on the
design.
