I'm not sure where you got the idea of having a graphic-only CAPTCHA.
I saw no mention of this.
As for alternatives to graphic CAPTCHAs, there are far more simpler
ways of doing the tests such as simple math, "4 plus 2 is " or other
such reverse turing tests.
