ok my 2 paisas:

As Sridhar pointed out, if you want to learn python and boost your skills in
Python, the best way to prove is possibly with your pet project, a
certification may not be required.

If u want to prove your hirer who has nothing to do with Python (not always
your  recruiter/manager knows things), it would be wise to get a
certification, because it sells you to non-IT people who do word matching in
resume. Fortunately, in most cases of recruitment, this is not the case, but
if u were unfortunate, a certification sells you..
